MY TRASH SPOKE VOLUMES AND IT WASN’T PRETTY. TURNS OUT, MY BIN HAD MORE TO SAY THAN I THOUGHT.
TRASH TALK
Daily waste breakdowns revealed unique patterns, giving me deeper insights into each day's habits. I began to see how my choices affected my waste footprint.
KEY CHALLENGE:
Data to story; translating a week’s worth of trash into a clear and actionable visual call to action.
I learned I toss out way more than
I realized, particularly single-use items. Social settings and food choices influenced trash types
& helped me to know the "why" behind what I throw away.

Entangled in the
waste ourselves

The visual is a metaphor for how our consumption of fish that have ingested trash can lead to us becoming entangled in the waste ourselves.

In my project, I've sorted out my trash into categories, figuring out how I use things, and seeing how it affects the environment. By categorizing my waste items, identifying my patterns I gained insights into my individual trash production behavior. It's clear that much of my garbage are things I could avoid, non-recyclable, and single use items.
